NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults) - Level 3
Code: VHC3
The Care Level 3 award is for carers who currently delivery physical, emotional or enabling care to clients in their day to day activities. The candidate will usually be delivering care in support of, and under the direction of, a colleague who is accountable in the area of practice. Candidates may often be working without direct supervision or on their own, such as in a client's own home.
Candidates will have a degree of responsibility and autonomy, and will be required to make decisions within boundaries and limits agreed with their team. The candidate would be expected to seek support, advice or assistance if they are unclear about what to do or if unusual or untoward situations arise (such as significant deterioration in the client's condition).
To be eligible you must:
- Be employed in a care role and provide both physical and enablement care to clients.
- Be committed to developing a career in care.
NVQ Standards
To achieve the qualification, the candidate must complete twelve units in total. These are drawn from five mandatory units and seven optional units.
Mandatory units
- Promote people's equality, diversity and rights
- Promote effective communication and relationships
- Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
- Develop one's own knowledge and practice
- Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse
Optional Units
- Prepare and maintain environments for clinical procedures
- Contribute to the development and effectiveness of work teams
- Contribute to the development, provision and review of care programmes
- Support clients during clinical activities
- Contribute to the movement and handling of individuals to maximise their physical comfort
- Receive, transmit, store and retrieve information
- Support individuals and others through the process of dying
- Undertake agreed clinical activities with clients whose health is stable in non-acute care settings
- Prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities with clients in acute care settings
- Enable individuals to find out about and use services and facilities
- Support individuals when they are distressed
- Contribute to the management of client continence
- Contribute to the assessment of individuals\' needs and the planning of packages of care
- Assist clients to develop self and environmental management skill
