Assess candidates using range of methods
This unit specifies what you need to achieve when collecting and judging evidence of competence from others, including the candidate and their peers.
It is up to you to decide whether enough evidence has been gathered in order to complete their units. It is important that your plan generates evidence from all sources and incorporates efficient evidence collection. This includes examining the potential each source has for generating evidence relevant to the elements. We encourage candidate participation, but be careful not to allow candidates to become too involved in their own assessment.
You should give all candidates equal access to fair assessment. When completing these elements, take into account the candidates' needs, so as to eliminate unfair discrimination in the assessment process.
To be eligible you must:
- You need to have access to real NVQ candidates, either through your centre or in your own workplace.
- Must assess candidates in an area of competence that you have. For example to assess a candidate for management, you must have competence in that area and at that level.
NVQ Standards
The A1 unit consists of four elements:
- A1.1 Develop plans for assessing competence with candidates
- A1.2 Judge evidence against criteria to make assessment decisions
- A1.3 Provide feedback and support to candidates on assessment decisions
- A1.4 Contribute to the internal quality-assurance process
These elements describe what you should achieve at each stage when assessing evidence. The evidence must:
- be associated with the element you are assessing
- meet the requirements laid down by the appropriate standard-setting and awarding bodies.
The A2 unit consists of four elements:
- A2.1 Agree and review plans for assessing candidates' performance
- A2.2 Assess candidates' performance against the agreed standards
- A2.3 Assess candidates' knowledge against the agreed standards
- A2.4 Make an assessment decision and provide feedback
