New University name

In an announcement on the 16th April 2009, the University of Wales Lampeter is to become "University of Wales: Trinity Saint David". The merger with Trinity University College will create a substantially larger institution with new opportunities for students. The new institution will formally be created by July 2010. UWL was known as St Davids University College until 1996. Further information is available on the UWL website.

University Graduation Day

Over fifty CTL graduands and guests travelled to the University of Wales Lampeter today to take part in the annual Graduation Day ceremony. Graduands from CTL joined the degree congregation alongside UWL graduands, academic staff and dignitaries. Photos of the event can be seen on the graduation page. In addition a video of the degree day will be available on the UWL website.

DfES lists CTL on the Listed Bodies Order

The Listed Bodies Order provides the names of all UK education institutions or bodies, which for the time being, deliver courses that lead to degrees awarded by Recognised Bodies. In the case of CTL, the Recognised Body for all degrees is the University of Wales Lampeter. For further information, please refer to the Listed Bodies Order.

Home Office announces Int'l Graduates Scheme

The International Graduates Scheme (IGS) announced by the Home Office Immigration and Nationality Directorate last week is a new initiative to allow all graduates of UK degrees the opportunity to work in the UK full-time for one year.

"The International Graduates Scheme (IGS) will be launched on 1 May 2007 with the aim of encouraging graduates of UK further or higher education establishments to pursue a career in the United Kingdom."

The programme applies to both UK undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. IGS participants will be able to take any type of employment or self-employment for up to 12 months and will be able to switch into various employment or self-employment categories such as work permit or HSMP beyond the 12 month IGS period, if they meet the relevant requirements.

UWL MBA Inauguration

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales Lampeter, Professor Robert Pearce inaugurated the UWL MBA programme at CTL campus in London today.

The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Conny Matera-Rogers, Mr. Steve Emmens, key CTL staff and MBA students. Professor Pearce spoke of the strength of the partnership between UWL and CTL stating that the education received by students at CTL was exactly the same as at UWL.

"If you want the bright lights of London come to CTL, if you want the Welsh rural experience come to Lampeter..." said Prof. Pearce. Students of the new MBA cohort mixed with the VC and UWL staff over a buffet lunch.
